Who is Sarah in the Bible?
Sarah, also spelled Sarai, in the Old Testament, wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. Sarah was childless until she was 90 years old. God promised Abraham that she would be “a mother of nations” (Genesis 17:16) and that she would conceive and bear a son, but Sarah did not believe.
Origin: Sarah is the name of the biblical wife of Abraham. It is a Hebrew word meaning noblewoman or princess.
Having secured Isaac's position in the family, Sarah disappears from Genesis. She plays no role in the near sacrifice of Isaac. She dies at the age of 127 in Hebron (Gen 23:1–2). Abraham buys his first real property in the land of Israel, the Cave of Machpelah, in order to bury her (Gen 23:19).

Sarah was a lovely woman who, at first, lacked faith in God's promises and the capacity to carry out what God promised. Her anxiousness led to unwise decisions, revealing her to be a jealous and cruel person. She became a strong lady of faith as her faith deepened, and God used her to carry out His plan.
Sarah symbolizes freedom, and God's favor, because it was her child, rather than the son of Hagar the slave woman, who fulfilled God's freely given promise. The one God protected.
Sarah is a name that infers you are compromising, passive, and more likely to follow than to lead type of person. You prefer to be in the background rather than up front and center. You are sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and a team player. You can easily understand the emotions and thoughts of other people.
She laughs not because she believes that God is unable to fulfill his promise, but because of her condition. The reality is she old and Abraham also is very old.
Some authors, taking up themes from the pseudohistorical book Holy Blood, Holy Grail, suggest that Sarah was the daughter of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.
Why did God change Sarah and Abraham's name?
In Genesis 17 we learn about further promises and responsibilities the Lord revealed pertaining to the Abrahamic covenant. In connection with this covenant, the Lord changed Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah. Circumcision became a sign or token of the covenant.

The third time we find laughter in Sarah's life is after Isaac was born, and in Sarah's great happiness she said in Gen 21:6 “God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.” The initial laughter of unbelief has now been replaced with the laughter of joy!
